About

Freya Art Atelier - Mihaela Ionescu

Born in Sibiu and now based in Brașov, Transylvania, Mihaela Ionescu is the founder and designer behind Freya Art Atelier, a brand dedicated to celebrating Romanian heritage through contemporary fashion.

Although she completed formal studies in tailoring, fashion arts, and artistic photography, her creative journey has been largely self-directed, shaped by years of research, experimentation, and a deep passion for traditional craftsmanship.

Romanian folk art lies at the heart of her work. Drawing inspiration from traditional motifs, floral symbolism, and historical garments, she creates original pieces that reinterpret heritage through modern silhouettes, digitally embroidered details, and refined craftsmanship. Nature remains one of her greatest sources of inspiration, with botanical elements becoming a recurring signature throughout her collections.

Mihaela's work has received multiple awards at national fashion festivals, earning distinctions such as Best Designer and the Grand Prize. Between 2019 and 2023, her national costume designs represented Romania at international beauty competitions in Dubai, Egypt, and Poland.

Among the recognitions she values most is the Best National Costume award presented by renowned Romanian designer Cătălin Botezatu at Kids Top Model 2023.
Her historical costume designs have also appeared in international theatre productions, film projects, and artistic photography.

Through every creation, Mihaela seeks to preserve the spirit of Romanian traditions while giving them a contemporary voice—crafting garments that honour the past and belong naturally in the present.
